Sinus Lifts

Preparing For Dental Implants

(Not applicable for all implant patients)

What Is A Sinus Lift?

Your sinuses form part of the respiratory tract in your face. In particular, your maxillary sinuses are either side of your nose, which means they are directly above your upper jaw. A sinus lift is when additional bone is added in between your jaw and the maxillary sinus, which lifts the sinus.

Why Would I Need A Sinus Lift?

When your having dental implants placed in the upper jaw there needs to be sufficient bone. If the sinus is too low, there is a danger of the implant perforating the sinus which would cause a whole of host of issues.

Is A Sinus Lift Safe?

This is quite an extensive surgical procedure which is carried out by trained and experienced professionals in a sterile and controlled environment. There is a small risk associated with carrying out this type of procedure, and some of these include:

  • Gum infection – this is uncommon, and to counteract the chances of this occurring we will monitor you during the healing process
  • Sinus membrane punctured – this is low risk too, but in the unlikely event it happens additional work may be required to complete the overall procedure

All our treatments are carried out with the utmost due diligence and care to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Do I Need A Sinus Lift?

If you require implants in the upper jaw we will need to carry out further examinations (CT scan) to determine if this is required. Don’t be afraid though, our implant dentist is highly trained and we are here to ensure you get the treatments you want.
