What Are Children’s Braces?
These are braces used to correct (straighten) your Child’s teeth.
Why Would My Child Need Braces?
The most common reasons a child could have braces:
- Crooked, overlapping or crowded teeth
- Malocclusion (when the teeth don’t meet correctly – overbite/underbite)
When teeth are crooked and overlapping etc, it does make it more difficult to effectively clean all the surfaces of your teeth. This does mean your child will be more susceptible to developing cavities and inflamed gums (which can lead to further problems down the line).
How Do Children Braces Work?
There are many ways to straighten children’s teeth. Traditional braces however, with wires and brackets are still considered the gold standard of care for children who have developing mouths and teeth.
We will assess your child’s teeth in the first instance to determine what types of movements are required. We will advise on the suitable options and provide you with all the information you need to make the best decision for you and your child.
After the braces are initially fitted to the teeth, we will see you and your child every 4-8 weeks (your dentist will advise you). This will be to check on the progress of the treatment and to make any necessary adjustments.
How Long Will My Child Wear Braces For?
This will vary from each child but at the free consultation we will give you a rough idea based on your Childs individual case. For minor correctional cases it can be a matter of months, but for more complex cases it can take 18-24 months.
